Last Friday Ron Lake put me through my paces at The Oval. Ron, who is a certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer, has been providing Canowindra residents with fitness sessions since he qualified earlier this year. He first moved here three years ago after deciding he wanted somewhere with quiet roads and a peaceful lifestyle. An avid cyclist, he is keen to renew his license with Cycling Australia to race again next year. “I’ve been cycling since I was 15 so that’s my main passion, although I’ve always been interested in diet and fitness” says Ron. When he’s not pedalling, Ron invests some of his time teaching multiplications and subtractions as a math tutor. “Health and a good education are the two greatest assets that anyone can have” he says.
Ron’s enthusiasm shines through when he is training, which encourages you to try your best. A recent success story was a local mother and daughter team who lost 11 kilos between them in only 8 sessions. Another lady who has been going to sessions has a very pleased doctor at her progress so far. “The endorphins give you a kick, a natural high that makes you feel invincible. After a while you begin to look forward to sessions which become easier as you become stronger” Ron says. The personal training sessions include one-on-one coaching, healthy eating recommendations and tailored exercise routines depending on what the person’s goals are. “I ask them what they want to achieve, usually it’s toning up, losing weight or just getting healthy. Then they write a food diary so I am able to make suggestions when necessary as to what they might like to change.” Ron has full confidence in his method to helping you achieve a better body. With the right diet and a program of exercise there are no negatives” he says, “it’s a win, win, win situation!”
