How long have you lived in Canowindra? Robyn, my wife and I moved her on my 60th Birthday, so almost 30 years.
Where were you born? I was born in North Richmond, in the Kurrajong Hills. I went to school there until one day I’d had enough of being in trouble for being late (we owned a dairy so we were always late) so I went home and told my father. He said best to go out and get a job then and I continued working hard for the rest of my life.
What brought you to Canowindra? When I moved here people said I would never get work here, but I did within a week, working on a vineyard near town. I also ran a feedlot at Darbys Falls for a long time.
What do you like about Canowindra? Everyone knows everyone’s business, but in a good way. If someone needs help, they get it. It’s a nice quiet little town. I feel very supported in this town.
Do you have any family? Robyn and I both had been married previously, so we brought up five kids together. Then along came Susie. When Robyn suggested we foster a child I said, “One more at our table wasn’t going to hurt!” Susie was a foster child we picked up from Sydney, with nothing but a few items. My funniest memory of Susie was when she rode to town on her own on horseback.
What would you change about Canowindra if you could? Well, time here has changed a lot of things. However, if I had the money, I would like to turn Lyndon house into a beautiful doctor’s surgery.
