The Canowindra Public School Year 5 class were treated to a special visitor on Tuesday afternoon when Mr Andrew Gee, Federal
Member for Calare called into the School. Mr Gee missed out on seeing the class in Canberra at Parliament House on their recent
excursion in June. The class led by teacher Mr Oliver had a lot of entertaining questions for Mr Gee to answer.
Mr Gee’s first question to the students was “What do we do in Parliament?” he was met by a lot of different answers but mainly the responses were “Yell a lot” “Make laws” and “Fight with other Politicians”.
He then went onto explain to the children that he does a lot of work behind the scenes to make Australia and particularly our electorate a better country. He explained to the students that while he is in Canberra he just “keeps knocking” on doors to try and get funding for Calare. Some of the things Mr Gee has been able to secure funding for is the upgrades on Cargo Road, the second circuit at Mt Panorama in Bathurst and he is currently seeking funding for a Medical School in the area.
Ciaran Kinsela asked a very relevant question – “Can you get the Canowindra- Eugowra Road fixed, it has so many potholes?” Mr Gee responded and said “If the whole class can write me a letter telling me about this problem I will take it to State and Federal Government for you and Cabonne Council as they are responsible for the road.”
Some other funny questions from the children included – “Have you met Donald Trump?” “Where did you get your coat from?” and “Can I please have your autograph?” Mr Gee finished his visit to the School by attending the Infants Assembly in the School Hall to present the weekly winners with their awards.
