A successful High Tea was enjoyed by over 150 people last Saturday to celebrate 100 years of the Country Women’s Association in NSW. Despite the less than favourable weather, it was a joyous occasion.
President of the Canowindra CWA Branch Betty Jenkins said “I would like to thank all who attended our event and a big thank you to our sponsors, Cabonne Council, Antonios Wines and SeeSaw Wines. I must also express my sincere thanks to our many helpers who made the event possible. The students and staff from Canowindra High School did an excellent job”.
Kirstie Fitzpatrick, Prime 7 News presenter was the MC for the event and spoke of the delights of living in the Central West and the spectacular aspects of Noojee Lea.
Phil Donato, MP for Orange and Deputy Mayor of Cabonne Jamie Jones gave addresses and presented the six lucky door prizes donated by Eureka Plants.
Mr Charles Curran, AC and Mrs Eva Curran graciously made the Noojee Lea garden available for the celebration.
“It was unfortunate that Charles and Eva couldn’t join us but we were delighted by the assistance provided by Donna Burton, Head Gardener of Noojee Lea,” said Betty Jenkins.
The CWA of NSW had its beginnings at the Bush Women’s Conference at the Royal Agricultural Show in Sydney in April 1922.
The CWA has since evolved and remains as active, relevant and consistent as it did 100 years ago.
The Canowindra Branch is proud to give members the chance to engage with like-minded women who continue the tradition of improving lives of women, children and families.
Today the Canowindra Branch host monthly meetings, morning teas, craftanoons, cooking classes and study groups.
They also undertake sponsorship for schools, cater for events and hire out the hall.
