Last Thursday afternoon Canowindra Public School held their Colour Run during Education Week to coincide with their Open Classrooms. This idea came from the primary students who thought it was a great way to have fun and to fundraise for the school.
The event was put on by the P & C to help raise funds for the much needed shade cover over the level 3 play equipment.
Parents, students and teachers all participated. “The kids had a lot of fun raising money and the day was really so much fun,” said Alison Stephens, Committee Organiser. “The school didn’t set a target for their fundraiser however raised over $12,000 which exceeded all expectations”.
The children all helped to fundraise with the option of setting up an online sponsor page through everydayhero.com. They had the incentive to raise funds by getting to choose prizes based on their individual total amount raised. Year 4 student Tom Maloney was the highest fundraiser raising with over $1,000. Well done Tom!
“It was a great success not just for the amount of money raised but the number of people in attendance. The weather was perfect! Being Education Week the classrooms were open to family, friends and grandparents to visit followed by a free sausage sizzle and the Colour Run so everyone stayed on and was involved in some way,” said Principal Sharon Hawker.
“The kids loved it, you couldn’t wipe the smiles off their faces. It’s definitely something we would like to do again in the future.”
The shade cover will now be completed by the summertime, allowing the children to enjoy the shade while playing on the equipment.
