This historic photo of Canowindra Public School was part of an exhibition held last year at the University of Sydney’s Macleay Museum called “Picturing New South Wales: Photographs by Kerry & Co.”
Arrangements to celebrate the 150 Years of Public Education in Canowindra are underway, with both Canowindra Public School and Canowindra High School, in conjunction with the Canowindra Historical Society and Museum Inc, set to celebrate this amazing milestone.
A short ceremony will be held in the Canowindra High School Hall at 2pm on Thursday 1 May to launch the new book, The Past Fifty Years of Public Education in Canowindra 1975 – 2025. This will be a brief ceremony, during which copies of the book will be presented to each school. All students, ex-students, parents, and community members are invited to attend. The Schools Open days will be held later in this year.
Details regarding the order forms and places to purchase The Past Fifty Years of Public Education in Canowindra 1975 – 2025 will be available soon. There will also be a pre-launch sale of the book on Saturday 26 April, from 9.30am to 3pm at the Canowindra Historical Museum Open Day.
This will coincide with the commencement of the 2025 Canowindra Balloon Challenge.
During the year it is hoped to hold A History in the Club presentation, sponsored by the Canowindra Historical Society and Museum. The details are yet to be finalised and will be advertised at a later date.
Friday 31 October will see the start of the schools’ celebrations with an evening cocktail party at Perennialle Plants. It is hoped that this weekend will be a “Come Home” time for many ex-students and teachers, so plan your reunion and accommodation soon.
The Canowindra Public School will hold their Annual Fete and Open Day on Saturday 1 November, from 11am – 2pm. That evening, the annual Canowindra Spring Fling Street Party will be held from 5pm with a food stalls, bands and fun activities for the whole community to enjoy.
Then on Sunday 2 November the Canowindra High Schoo will hold their Open Day with a breakfast starting at 8am. It is a double celebration for the High School as this year marks the 50th year of the School on the Browns Avenue site. Both Schools will confirm activities later in the year and will advise of planned activities via their school newletters and social media.
Please mark these dates on your calendar to help celebrate the Sesqui Centenary of Public Education in Canowindra.
