Central West Team Penning (CWTP) is proud to announce that the next event, to be held on 9, 10 and 11 April, will be a celebration of 10 years of competitions held by the club. The upcoming event at CWTP arena at the Canowindra Showground will be a three day, 10th anniversary competition. Friday, 9 and Saturday, 10 will be a series of heats with eligible finalists competing for trophy buckles on Sunday, 11.
CWTP was started by a group of keen locals in 2011. Having competed at Tamworth, the group had became interested in bringing the event to Canowindra. It is a great family sport and had the potential to draw an influx of competitors and spectators to the local community, benefiting Canowindra both financially and adding another sport to the towns sporting calendar. CWTP’s first competition was held in February 2011, using borrowed equipment such as panels, collars, time clocks, PA equipment, a trailer and truck for a judges stand and so on.
Every event held since 2011 has helped CWTP to improve and fine tune the arena to a stage, which is now outstanding and second to none. CWTP owns all the infrastructure such as yards and gates, judges box, PA system, state of the art electronic timing facilities, overhead lights, 500 tonne sand, hundreds of collars, cattle crushes, cattle ramps, a storage area container and a Kubota tractor.
CWTP would like to thank all local businesses that have supported them over the last 10 years. Each event could not function without the support of the local community.
Team penning is a family-oriented sport with competitors as young as five years old in juniors and some adult competitors who are 80 years old.
